THE LAW OFFICE OF KATHERINE SMITH
I began representing Federal workers when I was still in Law School. I have a strong Union background and a Masters degree in Labor Relations from the University of Massachusetts Labor Center at Amherst. Because of my qualifications, I was fortunate enough to work for the American Postal Workers Union (APWU) Local 497 in Springfield, Massachusetts as an OWCP Intern for two years while I worked on my Law Degree. After Law School, I went to work for the attorney who supervised the Internship program. Attorney Craig Robinson was an ex-Postal employee in the Clerk craft and President of his APWU local before he began his law practice. He a was brilliant attorney, a wonderful mentor and a good friend. He passed away suddenly in 2007. I started my own law practice the same year. I have represented the Mail Handler's Union, and five different APWU Locals over the years. I am licensed to practice before the Massachusetts Bar, the U.S. District Court in the District of Massachusetts, and the U.S. Federal Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. I also have represented clients before the OWCP, ECAB MSPB, EEOC, and the VA Disciplinary Appeals Board. For years I simply relied on word of mouth for clients to find me. I didn’t do anything else because I have always had plenty of work. I have represented employees all over the country from the Postal Service, Fish and Wildlife, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, SSA, IRS, TSA, the VA and other federal Agencies. However, many of my clients, and colleagues, strongly urged me to make myself for accessible because there are so many people out there who need help and cannot find it. That is the purpose of this website. I really do want to help people to know what they are entitled to, what they can do about it, and then assist them through the process in any way I can.
